Note: Birth year from WWI draft registration is Dec. 8, 1882, and is the most likely among conflicting dates from several sources; this same date also matches his stated age in the newspaper clipping of his death notice. The 1900 U.S. Federal Census has a birth date of Nov. 1881, but is unlikely because next older sibling Rudolf has a birth date record of March 15, 1881. The gravestone birth year of 1884 is unlikely because next younger sibling Nellie was born March 25, 1884. Death date on Ohio Death Index is Nov. 12, 1924, so that is being used as the most reliable date. An undated Ohio newspaper notice states his death occurred on Nov. 11. This newspaper clipping has an ad on the reverse side for a next year's subscription to a 1925 magazine, so it further supports 1924 as death year. The clipping was found among his sister Caroline's memorabilia, and reads:

"Death of Albert Custer
Albert Custer, aged 41, who had been a patient in McCurley Hospital, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11th, after a lingering illness. His wife died several years ago. The funeral was held in West Mecca Sunday, in the charge of Love & Son. Mrs. J. (Mary) DeJuren of Chicago, a sister, and Rudolf Custer of Rankin, IL, a brother, attended the funeral."

Orvilla Custer, buried beside Albert , is assumed to be his wife (same style gravestone, and no other Custer in this cemetery). On 1910 U.S. Federal Census, Albert's wife's name was Villa P. ; and, on Albert's death certificate, his deceased wife's name is Pear (?Pearl). In the Custer family, Albert's wife was known as Pearl (?Orvilla Pearl). A marriage record for Albert Custer and Villa (?Orvilla) Reynolds is dated July 1903 in Tippecanoe County, IN (from Ancestry.com).
