He was the son of Rev. Henry Bass and Amelia M. Love. He was a methodist preacher and in later years the first Sunday School Superintendent at Lewis Chapel UMC.

Died June 12, 1898
A member of the S.C Conference 12 years. Forty years as a local preacher. Eleven years as Superintendent of Lewis Chapel Sunday School of which church he was a member. A learned man. Holy and pure in life. His delight was to visit the sick and do good to all classes, preaching and teaching. Well done. Good. and faithful servant. Buried in Lewis Chapel Cemetery.
