Eli was born in Ill to parents Andrew Edwards 1780-1833 and Anna Buckalew 1784-1846. In 1848 land he inherited from his father was sold and he headed to the gold fields of CA. He remained unmarried throughout his life. He was the brother of Esias Edwards who went west after becoming a Mormon in Ill with Brigham Young 's wagon train. Eli got TB and died in 1904 . He was buried at the I.O.O.F. Cem in San Luis Obispo, CA.
