Winter Park, Fla. - Mrs. Mary Alice Belcher Hodges, 67, of Winter Park, went to be with her Lord on Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, after a long four-year battle with cancer, at the home of her daughter, Vonda Hodges Fields. Mrs. Hodges was born in Bulloch County, Ga., on January 28, 1943, to Robbie and Elva Anderson Belcher. She was a member of the St. Andrews United Methodist Church, where she served as organist for over 35 years. Mrs. Hodges was retired from Orange County Public Schools, where she served, over the years, as principal at Aloma Elementary, Killarney Elementary, as well as the charter principal of Rosemont Elementary. The foundation of reading was so dear to her heart that upon her retirement, the media center at Rosemont was dedicated in her honor. A woman of many legacies, she not only was an accomplished musician and educator, but was also an avid seamstress, family chef and cake decorator, as well as the head cheerleader for her grandchildren's many activities. With such a passion and positive outlook on life, she was and will continue to be a loving influence on her family, friends, co-workers and students.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Vonda and David Fields of Orlando and Christy and Palmer Miles of Winter Park; five grandchildren, Garret, Conner and Morgan Fields, John Palmer and Robbie Miles; her mother, Elva Belcher of Statesboro, Ga.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Ray Lanier of Cary, N.C., Helen and Pete Leonard of Mt. Airy, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Aaron and Vicki Belcher of Pembroke, Ga.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Margret Hodges of Nevils, Ga.; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Doris and George Moss.

Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by her father, Robbie Belcher.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 17th, at St. Andrews UMC with the Rev. Cathy Thacker officiating.

The family will also receive friends on Sunday, December 19th, at the Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro, Ga., from 1:30-3:30 p.m. A graveside service will then be held at 4 p.m. in the Leefield-Corinth Cemetery in Brooklet, Ga.

Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
