Berniece White Black, 93, of Yates City, formerly of Galesburg, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

Born Sept. 13, 1908, in Lewistown to Roy and Winifred Sipes Johnson, she married M. Van White on April 18, 1930, in Galesburg. He died Oct. 6, 1976. She married John Black in September 1987 in Galesburg. He died May 28, 1992.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Van White, in 2000; one brother; and one sister.

Surviving are two daughters, Sharon (and Gale) Sherman of Yates City and Sandra (and Steve) Olson of Three Rivers, Mich.

She had worked for O.T. Johnson's department store in Galesburg for 12 years.

She served as a Knox County election judge for 40 years. She also was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for 20 years.

She was a member of Order of Eastern Star and the Oliver Wendell Holmes Club, both in Galesburg.

Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg.
