THE HENRY BULLETIN, Martinsville, VA, Tuesday, March 25, 1924, p5, col. 3 (edited)
Mrs. John Q[uincy] Carter, aged 66 years, of Bassett, R.F.D., who has been in ill health for the past seven years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. [Mary E.] Ben Smith on Wednesday morning, March 19th.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon from the Blackberry Baptist Church, and the interment was in the family burial ground of which church the deceased was a consistent member for over 53 years.
The deceased is survived by five children: John P. Carter of Bassett; Walter H. Carter of Kansas; [William] Willie G[erman] Carter [II] of Sanville; Mrs. Nellie [sic "Nettie" Sophia Jennette, Mrs. Caleb Harvey] Haynes of Buffalo Ridge; Mrs. [Mary E.] Ben Smith of Bassett, R.F.D.
