He was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Red Top, Mont., to William Roy and Lola Post Saner. He married Eleanor Pearson on Sept. 17, 1945. She preceded him in death on Jan. 5, 1970. He married Gladys Ivins on July 15, 1970. She preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 1984. He married Betty Grotluschen on Nov. 12, 1991. She preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 2005.
He served in the U.S.Army during World War II and served in the CCC program helping to build Lake Wapello. A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, he resided in Arizona from 1985-2005.
He was a carpenter working for Ed Schwartz for over 25 years.
He was member of the First Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are a son, Dean(Anna)Saner of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Carol(Jerry)Black of Kirksville, Mo., Lavelle(Bill)Peede of Tuscon, Ariz., and Audrey Harbour of Ottumwa; many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Saner; and four brothers, Malvin, John, Carl and Howard Saner.
Funeral services will be 1pm Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Jay Allison officiating. Following services, his body will be donated to University of Iowa Deptartment of Anatomy. Visitation will begain at 1pm Thursday at the funeral home with the family present one hour prior to service on Friday.
