"Ap" was the son of John David McKim and Rebecca Lamar. He married Harriet Iowa Scott. She was the daughter of John Scott and Rebecca Morrows. To this union six children were born; Sarah Ellen, Minnie, William Tivis, Marshall Elsworth, Lewis Ivan, and John Quincy.

Alfred was nicknamed "Ap" in the Scottish Fashion, meaning "son".. He is buried with his wife who died before him. Apparently there is no gravestone for Ap.
