Marshall died in a San Antonio hospital from injuries suffered at the hand of Tom Bybee; Tom was a very mean man and was responsible for the deaths of another member of Marshall's mother's family ten years before he murdered Marshall.

Marshall loved life and was a loving son and brother and was always a very happy person. He was the father of seven children.

He was married three times: with his first wife, Jo Ann Marley, he had two sons, Delbert Wayne (1952) and Dennis Marshall (1953).

With his second wife, Mary Green (the daughter of William Prather and Verna Dee Roper Green; her name on her birth record is Ivory Elmer); he had five children.

Joyce Ann(1958) who was adopted when she was 19 months old by Leon and Ella Mae Boulware Murray and whose name was changed to Anita Eloise Murray.

Glenn Edward (1959) who was adopted at the age of two months by Clyde Luther and Cathherine Marie Goad Boomer in Hockley County Texas.

Danny, Peggy and Keith were adopted by Floyd Eddie and Shelly Juanita Douglas Wright. Their names were changed to Thomas Douglas Wright(1960), Peggy Belle (1961), and Floyd Eddie Jr (Keith)(1962.

At the time of his death, he was married to Vera, his third wife.
