James B. was born to James B. and Gilly (Boots) Cundiff near Belmont in Bullitt County, Kentucky. He married Emma Boyd 4 May 1890 in New Albany, Floyd Co., Indiana.

"James B. Cundiff, 68 years of age, died at his home near Gale Friday night at 10:30, following an attack of acute indigestion with which he was stricken late Friday evening. Mr. Cundiff was born April 19, 1866. He was married to Miss Emma Boyd. Five children were born, two preceding him in death, namely, Mrs. Lelia Gilpin and Walter Cundiff.
"Mr. Cundiff was a prosperous farmer in his community for many years. He had a pleasing personality which won him many friends.
"Surviving Mr. Cundiff are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Connie McGee, two sons, John and Virgil, ten grandchildren, and one sister, Susie Cundiff of Louisville, Kentucky. In 1896, he was united with the Baptist church at Belmont, Kentucky. Funeral services were conducted in the Baptist church at Thebes, Monday afternoon, the Rev. Smith officiating. Burial was made in the Thebes cemetery. . . . ."
