After the war, John married Florence E. Cleaver on 20 May 1921 in Jackson, Missouri. They were the parents of 4 children and lived in Gale, Illinois.
Florence passed away in 1958.
After her death, John moved to a trailer home near Hartford in Madison County, Illinois. He was a civil service worker until his retirement.
John died in a fire at his trailer on 21 Nov 1966. At the time of his death, he was 70 years, 11 months and 1 day old.
He was survived by 1 daughter, Imogene Marston of Hyde Park, Utah; 3 sons, William Cundiff of Collinsville, Illinois, Ray Cundiff of Granite City, Illinois, and Alfred Cundiff of Ontario, California; 13 grandchildren; and 1 brother, Virgil Cundiff of McClure, Illinois.
Visitation was held at Marks Mortuary on 22 Nov 1966. Funeral services were conducted there at 11 a.m. the following morning.
