PARSONS, Kans. - Mrs. Ellen M. Phelps, 81, of Parsons died here yesterday in the Presbyterian Manor.
She was born in Carthage, she lived in Canton, N.Y., before moving back to Carthage in 1987.
Mrs. Phelps, an elementary school teacher in Joplin, Mo., was a graduate of Joplin Junior College and Southwest Missouri College.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian Women's Group, Circle 2, of the First Presbyterian Church, Carthage.
She was a member of the Emninence Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Beta Sigma Phi Laureat Chapter Sorority.
Surviving are her husband, Richard C.; three daughters, Erin, Edith and Mrs. Ellen Didyoung, and six grandchildren.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. today in the Park Cemetery, Carthage, Mo.
Arrangements are by the Knell Mortuary, Carthage.

Ellen M. Phelps, 81, of Parsons, died at 7:35 p.m. at Presbyterian Manor after a long illness.
Mrs. Phelps was born Oct. 6, 1917, in Carthage, Mo., to William and Emma Beasley.
She graduated from Carthage High School in 1936, Joplin Junior College in 1938 and Southwest Missouri State College in 1940.
She taught in the elementary schools of Centennial and Marion and five years at McKinley school in Joplin, Mo. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carthage, the United Presbyterian Women's Group, Circle 2, the Emminence Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Beta Sigma Phi Laureat Chapter Sorority.
She married Richard C. Phelps July 2, 1947, in Carthage. They moved to Canton, N.Y., and then back to Carthage in June 1987. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Erin McElroy of Arlington, Mass., Edith Phelps, Spring Valley, N.Y., and Ellen Didyoung, Starksboro, Vt.; five grandchildren.
The body was cremated. Burial will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Manor Sunshine Fund in care of Knell Mortuary.
Arraignments are under the direction of Knell Mortuary.
