She was a registered nurse and worked for several hospitals including Daly City Hospital in Daly City, California, Scranton State Hospital, Scranton, PA, and a private hospital in Santa Barbara, California, where she was a head nurse. She also worked for the Department of Hospitals in Queens General Hospital in Jamaica, New York. She was a member of the Army Nurse Corps, from 1942 to 1946, serviing in World War II. She was stationed in North Africa, Corsica, and Italy.
