Levi Pennington was a Lieutenant under Sherman, who later received a field promotion to Captain. The promotion was confirmed by act of Congress but Pennington died in the "Battle of Vicksburg" during the Civil War, at Chickasaw Bluffs, Vicksburg Mississippi, before the paper work was processed.

He was Captain of Company C, 7th. KY. Volunteers

G.A.R. Post #53 in Annville, Kentucky was named in his honor.

I have seen him refered to as Abel Levi Pennington also, but there is no documentation to support this , that I have found.

I am also in the process of validating the photo , as to it being him. 3-10-2013 [Thanks Roger]
