LONDON, Ky., Aug. 4. – Captain John Pennington, ex-Union soldier, died at his home at Annville, aged seventy-eight years. He was captain of Company A, Forty-seventh Regiment, Kentucky Infantry Volunteers. He was the father of County Judge P. R. Pennington, of this county. Deceased was prominent in politics. His last office was Sheriff of Jackson county.

A copy of Captain Levi Pennington's last letter before he was killed at the battle of Chickasaw Bluffs in General Grant's first assault on the Rebel stronghold at Vicksbury is a proud possession of many of his descendants in Jackson County today.

Captain John Pennington of Company A is buried on the beautiful knob overlooking Annville and Bond.
