Hillburn was a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Forces~44th Bomber Squadron, 40th Bomber Group, Very Heavy.

He entered the Service from Oregon.

Awards: Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters

He was aboard a B-24-H Liberator bomber, serial number 42-95095, which crashed at the Fairy Lochs near Gairloch, Wester Ross, Scotland with the loss of all 9 crew members and 6 passengers. It was returning to the USA.
Six of the victims are interred at Cambridge.
