Martin is the son of Levi B. Pruett (1815-1868) and Hannah Trenary (1819-1883). Levi fought, along with his brother Martin and Hannah's father John B Trenary at the Battle of San Jacinto. It is unknown where Levi and Hannah are buried, but it is family legend that Levi was killed in an indian raid when Martin G was a small child. Martin told stories of hiding in the woods near their homestead with his mother during the raid and on many subsequent nights.
