Levi B. Pruitt entered colonial Texas in 1822 with his parents, Jacob J. and Elizabeth Pruitt and his brother Martin G. Pruitt. The family came to Texas under contract with Sterling Robertson to settle in Robertson's Colony. They eventually settled, however, with David G. Burnet's Colony in what became Houston County. Jacob's Spanish Land Grant was issued in 1834 for one league of land. Their plantation lay on the Neches River northwest of Crockett along the San Antonio Road. The land is now part of the Davy Crockett National Forest. Levi and his brother were mustered into the Texas Army at Nacogdoches on March 7, 1836 and were both at the Battle of San Jacinto. They served an additional three months in the Texas Army, May 9 through August 9, 1836.
