Virginia Fant Atkinson, 98, died at her home at Federal Point on Aug. 2, 2004 at 9:55 p.m. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, May 1, 1906 to Oliver and Elizabeth Ferris Fant. The family moved to St. Augustine when she was a child. She graduated from St. Augustine High School, 40 Orange St., June 5, 1924.She was a lifelong Episcopalian, baptized and confirmed at Trinity Episcopal Church, St. Augustine, and was married to Ralph Wheeler Atkinson on July 28, 1926, at Trinity, after which they moved into their newly built home at 130 Commercial Ave., Federal Point.
She became a member of St Pauls's Episcopal Church of Federal Point and was active as organist, teacher, youth leader, mission board member, treasurer. She was elected as President of the Episcopal Church Women -- Diocese of Florida,1956-59. She became known as the Matriarch of St. Paul's.

After the death of her husband, she then moved to be with her mother at 567 Federal Point Road.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, Annette Fant Bidwell, Bruce J. Drackett and Joanne D. Chapman, all of Bradenton, Joe J. Fant Jr. of Tampa, Gary F. Drackett of Tallahassee, Mark D. Drackett of Alabaster, Ala., and Philip W. Drackett of St. Augustine.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Pauls's Episcopal Church, 124 Commercial Ave., Federal Point. Burial following services at Evergreen Cemetery, St. Augustine. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Craig Funeral Home Chapel.
