Johann Friederich Leiby was married to Maria Mettlina.
They were the immigrant ancestors of the Leiby family in America. They arrived on the ship Samuel on August 17, 1733, with 4 children: Jacob 13, Michael 10, Wolrick 4, and Catherina 1.

According to the "Leiby Family Tree", available on the web and compiled by Alan L. Leiby and Dr. Grant Leiby, and my records, he was born on 2 Dec 1694 in Steinsfurt, Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, Northern Kraichgau, Germany. His parents were Michael Luype (sic) and Anna Maria Barbara Weiss. Steinsfurt is now a suburb of Sinsheim in Baden-Wurttemburg, located roughly half-way between Heilbronn and Heidelberg.
Friedrich's grandfather, Jacob Leype (sic), moved from the small village of Muttenz, Switzerland – just a couple of miles south of Basel – to Steinsfurt before 1661. It is thought that the move was part of the extensive repopulation of the Kraichgau area, decimated the Thirty Years war, followed by 2 or more years of famine, and the plague year of 1635. Friedrich married Maria Magdalena Mettlina in 1727 in Steinsfurt, Germany. There is some confusion about the name "Mettlina", whether it was part of her given name, but I believe that it was her maiden name.
Friedrich and Maria Magdalena had 8 children: Johan Jacob,1721-1807, George Michael, 1723-1807, Maria Catherina, 1726-1727, Hans Ulerich "Wolrich", 1729-1733, Anna Catherina Leiby Bollender Dunkel, 1732-1794, Frederick Leiby, Jr, 1735-1817, Andrew, 1737-1818, and John Killian, 1744-1818.
