Paul Abts, 85, died today at 12:35 a.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital, Arcadia, following a long illness.

Mr. Abts was born Jan. 9, 1872, and married Lizzie Spehn on Oct. 22, 1901. The couple farmed on Buffalo Ridge until 1943 when they retired and moved here.

Mr. Abts was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Orville, Fountain City; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Olivia) Grossell and Mrs. John (Florence) Grossell, Fountain City; five brothers, Joseph, Randolph, Nebr., Michael, Arcadia; Morris, Iola, Kan.; Louis, Monrovia, Calif., and Ed, Birmingham, Ala.; three sisteres, Mrs. William (Tillie) Fagan, Butte, Mont.; Mrs. Frank (Carrie) Stewart, Salida, Colo., and Mrs. Ed Rohrer, Riverside, Calif., and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Rev. Lee Lang officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The Rosary will be said Sunday and Monday at 8 p.m. at Colbyhemer and Florin Funeral Home.
