CRASH CLAIMS THIRD VICTIM

Mrs. Opal Mae Carpenter, 53, Cabool, died at 7pm Saturday in Charles E Still Hospital, the third victim of an accident that occurred last Wednesday.

Mrs. Carpenter has been in critical condition with multiple injuries. Her mother, Mrs. Lizzie Ruth Babbitt, 70, of Simmons, Missouri; and Loren Harold Babbitt, 49, of near Simmons; a son of Mrs. Babbitt, died shortly after the wreck.

Troopers said the three were in a northbound car driven by Babbitt, a carpenter, when he pulled into the path of a milk truck driven by Thomas Joseph Grothoff, 26, Jefferson City, at the junction of US 60 and 50, twelve miles east of Jefferson City.
Mrs. Babbitt was dead on arrival at a Jefferson City hospital; and her son died two hours later. Their funerals were held in Cabool last Saturday.

Services for Mrs. Carpenter will be at 2pm Tuesday at Cabool First Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Altis officiating. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry.

Mrs. Carpenter, a member of the Providence Freewill Baptist Church, is survived by her husband Lewis, a daughter, Mrs. Betty Strong, Cabool; two sisters, Mrs. Jackie Aldridge, Houston, and Mrs. Dora Lane, St Charles, and two grandchildren.
