Cynthia Nathalie Oslund Cox, formerly of Moscow, died at the age of 83 at Brookstone Village, Nampa, Idaho, on Thursday, December 3. Most of her life was spent in Moscow and Troy, but she lived her last years in Nampa near a daughter as health failed.Throughout her lifetime, she treasured her family most, valued her Christian faith, and loved learning about her Swedish heritage as well as enjoyed using her creative talents in music and arts. She taught elementary school in Troy and Moscow for nineteen years.For many years, she volunteered as a Camp Fire leader, was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and traveled with her husband Wilmer, often documenting personal family histories in Sweden and preserving the petroglyphs of Western native artists. She served as president of the local chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an educational organization, and visited throughout the state of Idaho with the "artist in residence" program. Among the many of her creative talents, she enjoyed painting, needlework, and pottery most.Cynthia was born the third daughter to Alex and Anna Marie Oslund on February 11, l926, in a little country cabin northeast of Troy, Idaho. She was raised primarily by her mother Anna Marie in Troy along with her two older sisters and younger brother after the premature death of her father in 1929. Upon graduation from Troy High School, she entered the University of Idaho, participating in the Vandaleers Choir. Her education also included time at Lewis and Clark Normal School in Lewiston, but was interrupted to marry and raise a family. At the end of WWII, but before her graduation, she married Wilmer Joel Cox of Troy, Idaho, at the Troy Lutheran Church on June 8, 1946. They eventually settled in Moscow where they raised their four children, Christine, Anna Marie, Signe, and John. She returned to the University of Idaho and graduated with a teaching degree in 1964.She was preceded in death by her husband Wilmer J. Cox; her daughter Signe (Cox) Brunner; her brother Alex Oslund; and her sister Marie (Oslund) Chaney.She is survived by her children, Christine (Michael) Foss of Urbandale, Iowa; Anna (Martin) Duarte of Marsing, Idaho; John (Dianna) Cox of Tucson, Arizona; sister Liviah Olin Michaelis of Coeur d'Alene; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
