Willie would have been one of first babies born in Hobart because he was born before the town was a year old. Before he was six, the family moved to Oklahoma City. Willie's father died when he was 13 and, after his mother remarried, he moved with the family to Oilton where his mother died when he was 19. Willie served a term in prison where he developed tuberculosis. As his condition deteriorated he was released to the custody of his sister, Bernita, who cared for him until he died at her home. He was only 29. Willie is buried at Fairlawn Cemetery where both his father and younger brother, George, are buried. His sister, Virginia, who was twelve years younger, used to say of him, "He was beautiful."
