Dixie Lee Merritt Murff, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Monday, July 2nd due to complications from rheumatoid arthritis. She was born on May 16, 1922, the daughter of Will and LeeAnna Merritt. She was raised in Garrett and graduated from Garrett High School in 1940. Dixie married William Denton Murff on November 21st, 1942. She worked in the library for the Ennis Public Schools for years. Dixie was well known for her baking skills and even ran a small baking business out of her home. Dixie was a faithful member of Gilmer Baldridge Church of Christ. Having been raised in Garrett and living in Ennis for all her adult life, she had a lifetime of strong relationships with friends and extended family. She is survived by her two sons- Jim Murff of Houston and his wife Susan, their children Christopher and Christi; and Ron Murff of Dallas and his wife Cheryl, their children Amy and Ryan Perry, Aaron and Hillary Murff and one great-granddaughter, Taylor Michelle Perry. Dixie was preceded in her death by her beloved husband of 49 years, William Denton Murff, in 1992. Visitation will be held at J. E. Keever Mortuary on Thursday July 5th, 6-8pm. The memorial service will be held on Friday July 6th, 10am at Gilmer Baldridge Church of Christ. Interment will be at Myrtle Cemetery. Officiating the service are Dr. Brent Isbell & Dr. Jack Graham.
Dixie's life was a testimony of her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and her family testifies that she was a true example of the Proverbs 31 woman. "Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future. A woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised."
