Gary Franklin Metcalfe, 59, died Tuesday (Aug. 18, 2009) after a courageous battle with cancer. The youngest of ten, Gary was born in Fayetteville. He moved to Houston in his teens and eventually settled in San Antonio 26 years ago. Preceding him in death and now welcoming him to his eternal rest are his parents, Frank, Sr., and Flossie; brothers, W.R., Frank, Jr., and Fred; grandmother-in-law, Genoveva Castaneda, and father-in-law, Leonard Resendez. Mourning the loss of the avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and chili cook off winner are his wife, Ann Marie; son, Mark; daughter, Genevieve; brothers, Hoover, Hulon and Clayton Metcalfe; sisters, Edith Porter, Nellie Scanlen and Betty Bethea; mother-in-law, Esther Resendez; sisters-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank the nurses and employees of VITAS Hospice and Dr. Gia Dice for their compassionate care. The family received visitors on Saturday followed by a 3 p.m. memorial service at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North.
