HARRIET EVELEEN HUNT
Harriet Eveleen Hunt, wife of Edson H. Hunt, died suddenly in her home at Ann Arbor, Friday morning, April 3rd. She was born 84 years ago in East Clarendon, near Rutland, Vermont and was a daughter of Nelson and Suzannah Parker White, and a descendant of New England pioneers. When a child she came with her parents to Pavillion township in Kalamazoo county and spent her childhood there in a log house on Long Lake. She was graduated from Michigan State Normal at Ypsilanti in 1873 and taught school in Ionia county for several years, including two years at the South Boston school.
She was married in 1880 to Edson H. Hunt, who survives her with their six children, eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The children are John H. Hunt of Detroit; Ormond E. Hunt of Ann Arbor; Don H. Hunt of Mansfield, Ohio; Suzannah E. Hunt of Phoenix, Arizona; Vera E Hunt of Hartsdale, N.Y., and Mrs. Agnes H. Parke of Phoenix, Arizona. One brother, Henry P. White of Benzonia, Mich., aslo survives.
She was a member of the Saranac M. E. church during all of her residence on the Hunt farm east of Saranac, and was still on the church rolls at the time of her death. She was active in the work of the Sunday school and other church activities.
She has been president of the South Boston Select School Association ever since it was organized 30 years ago. She continued to attend the meetings of the association after infirmities of age made it impossible for her to travel any distant for other events. These meetings were bright spots in her life.
Although Mr. and Mrs. Hunt left the old farm about twenty years ago to be closer to their children, Mrs. Hunt is still remembered by a host of friends in Saranac and vicinity.
The funeral was held at the Saranac M. E. church at 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, and interment was on the family lot in the Saranac cemetery. Dr. Finch of Ann Arbor assisted by Rev. Frank Loomis, conducted the services.
