Henry Melton was the son of Matthew Joseph Melton and his wife Chloe Williams.
He was a soldier in Pratt's Company of Illinois militia in the Black Hawk War. He married Lorania (or Lorainey) Whittington 20 Nov 1834 in Hancock Co IL. They had 10 children - all born in Hancock Co
