SPRINGFIELD - Ms. Shirley Mae Austin went home to be with her heavenly Father and those loved ones who went on before her, on Saturday morning, December 26, 2009, at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, Illinois.

Affectionately known as "Aunt Shirley", she was born on July 23, 1938 in Marigold, Mississippi; one of seven children born to Shelly and Rosetta Frye.

When she departed this life on Saturday, December 26th, 2009; she was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Edgar Austin, her daughter, Linda Faye, four sisters, Jesse Mae Frye, Willie B. Ford, Ella Wee Edwards and Issie McKnight; and one brother, Robert Lee Frye.

Shirley was united in holy matrimony to Edgar Austin on November 8, 1958; and remained united with him for forty-eight years, until he was called home in glory. To their union were born six children, five daughters and one son.

Shirley touched many lives during her time on this earth. She was loved by many and always had a kind word. She worked for St. John's Hospital for seventeen years in the central supply department as a supply clerk. She retired from there in November 1992 with many memories and after making many friends.

Shirley was true believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a part of the Mother's Ministry. Shirley loved to sing and cook and visit with friends and family. Her love, friendship and companionship will be missed.

Shirley will be cherished by all whom knew her personally. Of her family, she leaves to cherish her sweet memory: four daughters, Ethel (Ed) McGrone and Beulah Austin, both of Springfield, Illinois; Flora Austin and Joyce (Terry) Person, both of Memphis, Tennessee; one son, Edgar Lee (Marion) Austin of Springfield, Illinois; ten grandchildren, Lyncie Crawford, Lynard Crawford, Cordaryl Reid, Christopher Cogbill and Jasmine Williams, all of Memphis, Tennessee; Anthony Joy, Brandie Austin, Cortez Austin, Sabina Warrner and Heidi Warrner, all of Springfield, Illinois; three great-grandchildren, LaDarius Crawford of Memphis, Tennessee; Shawntavia Johnson and Mahleek Joy of Springfield, Illinois; and many special nieces and nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends.

Visitation and memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010; at Pilgrim Rest M.B.C., Rev. Charles W. Tiner Sr. officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.
