The light of our life is now shining brightly on the other side with the love of her life, Jay. Afton Ray Adams was more than the light of our family; she was a MVG (Most Valued Grandma). Her main focus in life was loving, caring, and supporting her spouse, two daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in every event and aspect of their lives.
She exemplified the life and teachings of our Savior Jesus Christ. She warmed the hearts of all those who spent time with her. Much like a lighthouse, her love and radiance will continue to serve as a beacon to guide us. Our hearts now have a vacant spot, but we know the true meaning of love because of her example and unconditional devotion.
Afton Ray Adams, age 86, was born in South Weber, Utah to Parley and Ella Love Ray on September 10, 1923.
She married Jay T. Adams in the Salt Lake Temple on April 17, 1946.
On December 4, 2009, she peacefully passed from this life surrounded by her loving family. She resided at 188 North 650 East in Kaysville, Utah at the time of her death.
Afton was a true sports fan and never missed a chance to watch and cheer for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved fishing with Jay, watching the Jazz, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, and making special desserts for her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor. She taught us to live, laugh, and most of all love.
Afton was a dedicated government worker retiring after more than thirty years from the Defense Mapping Agency. She also was one of the first field representatives for America First Credit Union. She served in the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society of the LDS Church. Alongside her husband, Afton also served at the Bishop's Store House and the Ogden Visitor's Center for many years.
She was preceded in death by her precious husband of sixty years, Jay T. Adams, her parents, brothers Leon and Jack Ray, and her sister Marie Nalder. We know they are having a great reunion together! She leaves behind two daughters, Carolyn (Blaine) Pierson and Rae Jean (Rick) Robinson, both of Kaysville, Utah. She will be immensely missed by her ten grandchildren, their spouses, and her fourteen great-grandchildren, not to mention the countless others who were blessed to be a part of her life. May a portion of her loving spirit live on within each of us. We love you Grandma Grape!
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Kaysville-Crestwood Stake Center, 855 East Mutton Hollow Road, Kaysville, Utah. Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main Street, and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church.
Interment will follow in the Kaysville City Cemetery.
