Iven J. Atwell, age 96 of Promise City, Iowa died Monday June 21, 2004 at the Golden Age Care Center, Centerville.

He was born March 8, 1908 at Brushy the son of William Layten Atwell and Georgia Morlan Atwell. He was raised in the Brushy-Plano area. He married Gertie Phelps on March 13, 1935 in Centerville and she preceded him in death in September of 2002. He mind coal as a youngman but farmed most of his life. He worked a few years for L&W Construction. He had been a member of the Brushy Church.

Surviving are one daughter Shirley Livingston and her husband Hugh of Indianola, Iowa two sons, William Atwell and his wife Roberta of Sigourney, Iowa, Robert Atwell and his wife Donna of Centerville, 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, a brother Merrill Atwell of Chariton, a sister Arlene Thompson of Promise city, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertie, a grand daughter Cindy McNight, parents, one brother Emmons Atwell, three sisters Louva Ferren, Elma Davison and Lovella Discon.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 10:30am June 23, 2004 at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home with Pastor Conrad Thompson officiating. Friends may call Tuesday at the funeral home with the family present from 6-8pm. Burial will be in the Jerome Cemetery, Jerome, Iowa. A memorial has been established to the Community Center in Promise City and may be left or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home PO Box 6, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
