William Lee Atwell, age 76 of Sigourney, Iowa passed away Monday June 22, 2015 at Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

William was born the son of Iven and Gertie(Phelps)Atwell in Plano, Iowa on March 20,m 1939. He attended Country School then went on to graduate at Centerville High School in 1957.

William was in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964 during the Korean War. While enlisted, on April 23, 1962, he was united in marriage to Roberta Goodwin in Washington, Iowa. From this union, they had two children, Lori Ann and Kevin Lee.

He worked for Iowa Southern Utilities and Alliant Energy, and retired in 1998 after 33 years. He loved to hunt, fish, trap and liked to do woodcarving. He also liked spending time at their property at Lake Rathbun.

He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Roberta; Two children, Lori Ann(Leroy)Hammes of Sigourney, Iowa, and Kevin Lee(Julie)Atwell of Ottumwa, Iowa; Five Grandchildren, Scott Anthony Harris, Iowa, Brian Lee Harris, William Eugene Harris, Richard Michael Atwell, and Amanda Lee Atwell; Two Great Grandchildren, Kendall Dawn Harris and Kendra Knight Harris; a Brother Robert Eugene(Donna)Atwell of Green Top, Missouri; and one Aunt Ruth King of Des Moines, Iowa.

William was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11 am Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Confidence Cemetery with Pastor John VanWeelden officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to either the Keokuk County Hospice, the Sigourney Fire Department, or to the Brushy Community Church and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
