Sophie Guidry Babst, age 86 resident of Hurst, Texas died, Monday, September 3, 2007 in Texas. She was the beloved wife of Earl for 66 years. Mrs. Babst was a devout member of St. John's Catholic Church in Gulfport. Sophie placed her family and her church at the center of her life. She was active in the Altar Society and the Legion of Mary. She was born in Abbeville, Louisiana to Eli and Cecille Guidry and made her home with her sister in New Orleans after the deaths of her parents. Sophie and Earl met and married in 1939. They moved to Gulfport in 1955. Mrs. Babst was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; brothers Ernest, John, Leon, and Gus Guidry; sister Laurance Le Blanc; and granddaughter Catherine Landry. Sophie leaves behind many family members and friends who will cherish her memory, especially daughters, Erlene Bechard and Sandra Landry; grandchildren, Mark Landry, Jackie Nelson, Chris Landry, Anne Bechard, Lee Ferguson, Theresa Crider, Jim Bechard, and Michael Bechard; and great-grandchildren, Allie Nelson, Addie and Bobby Ferguson, and Sophie Crider. Visitation will be at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport on Friday, September 7, 2007 from 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 8th at 1 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Gulfport. Burial will follow at Southern Memorial Park, Biloxi.
