STANLEY – Charles Samuel Hilliard, 90, a retired farmer of near Stanley, died at his home Thursday morning.

Mr. Hilliard was born May 17, 1876 in Rockingham County and was a son of Charles R. and Margaret Eaton Hilliard. He was a member of Hilliard Chapel Assembly of God Church near Stanley.

He and his wife, the former Flora Good, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Jan. 23.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Max Koontz, of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Mrs. Frank Cubbage of Stanley and Mrs. Buford Painter of Silver Spring, Md.; two sons, Harry G. and James C. Hilliard, both of Stanley; 26 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren, and a half-brother, Frank Hilliard, of Stanley.

The funeral will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Hilliard Chapel by the Rev. Henry Jenkins and the Rev. John Aleshire. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The body will be moved from Warren G. Kyger Funeral Home to the Hilliard home near Stanley 2 p.m. Saturday.
