She was born in Boxley Valley, Arkansas to Tim Villines a black man and her white mother Rosetta Faulkner Villines. She had lived in Boxley all her life until World War I and then moved with her siblings to Muskogee, OK. "It is said to have grown up to be a beautiful woman, who moved to and married well in California"
