Audrey Elizabeth Oliphant of Gainesville, TX, was born May 17,1919, at Burneyville, OK, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Velma Jones Powell. She passed away Tuesday, October 27, in Pecan Tree Health & Rehab,Gainesville,at the age of 90. Mrs. Oliphant had made her home in Love County until moving to the Gainesville area in 1987. She and Milton Bynum Oliphant were married December 23, 1937, in Marietta, OK, and he preceded her in death on June 18, 1987. During World War II Mrs. Oliphant worked in the shipyards in California. In later years she was employed as a home health care aide. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Worldwide Church of God in Denison, TX. Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting and caring for children. Audrey was 16 when her Mother died, she helped her Dad raise 6 brothers and sister. She raised 8 children of her own and helped raise 20 Grandchildren and several of her Great Grandchildren.In addition to her husband, Mrs. Oliphant was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Milton Oliphant and Auston Oliphant; two brothers, George Lee Powell and James Dudley Powell; two infant sisters, Irene Powell and Minnie Mae Powell; five grandchildren, Tommy Oliphant, Jimmy Oliphant, George William Bruce, Donna (Wade) Graham and Milton Joel Oliphant; and a great-grandson, Johnny Oliphant.
