To all those who knew him, Tommy Powell was the epitome of selflessness. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and Special Education teacher for over 30 years. He will be remembered for his patience, kindness, and love of Angels baseball.

Tom Powell Jr. was born April 8, 1935, in Burneyville, Love, Oklahoma, to Thomas Jefferson Powell and Velma E. Jones. His mother passed away due to complications from his birth, so Tommy was raised by his aunt and uncle, Mae and Will Spelce. He graduated high school in Munday, Texas, and attended West Texas State University where he played football. He was a member of the team that won the 1957 Tangerine Bowl for West Texas. It was while attending West Texas that he met his future wife and love of his life, Marion Caple.

Tommy and Marion were married on December 28, 1958, at First Christian Church in Huntington Beach, Orange, California. They would spend their first six years of marriage living in Amarillo, Texas, where their daughter Paige was born. In 1965 they moved to Westminster, California, where their son Blake was born.

Tommy was one of those most noble of educators who devoted his career to teaching children with special needs. He spent 38 years teaching middle school Special Day Class at Orange View Junior High in Anaheim, California.

He will be truly missed by all who knew him, but especially by those closest to him: Marion, his wife of nearly 63 years, children Paige and Blake, daughter-in-law Maily Ross, brother-in-law David Caple and family, sister-in-law Candice Konopacky and family, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.

Although Tommy is no longer with us, he will always be there with us in every kind move we take, in every quiet moment of joy we have, and every time the Angels hit a home run.
