Lewis C. Norton, 84, formerly of Lubbock, passed away on Oct. 24, 2009. He was predeceased by his wife, Vicky Norton; parents, John and Phila Norton; brother, Philip and wife Gladys; and sister, Ruth McCall and husband Raye.

Lewis was born on Nov. 5, 1924 in Redlands, Calif. He received a degree in meteorology from CalTech, and a Master's degree from Texas A&M. After serving in the military, he worked for NOAA as a weather forecaster.

Lewis and Vicky were married at First Baptist Church, Wash. D.C. on May 30, 1948. Lewis' job took them to Kansas, Fort Worth, Texas, and Lubbock, Texas, where he served as Principal Assistant. They were members of Oakwood Baptist Church for 30 years. Lewis and Vicky celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998, before Vicky passed away in 1999. Lewis later moved to Abilene and Lake Jackson, Texas.

Lewis' hobbies included stamp collecting, bowling, pottery, knitting and poetry. He also authored a song titled, "Life is Like a Speeding Jet Plane."

Lewis is survived by his brother, Henry and wife Pat of Concord, N.C.; three children, Leon Norton and wife Marsha of Lake Jackson, Texas, Linda Johnson and husband J.P. of Chesapeake, Va. and Lou Ellen Gates and husband Tom of Buffalo Gap, Texas; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Lewis always sought to help others. Truly, Jesus welcomed him with these words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 in Elliott-Hamil Cemetery in Abilene, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, or the charity of your choice.
