Mrs. Rachel Barnes Martin, 85, of Waycross died early Wednesday morning at her residence after an extended illness.

She was born in Plant City, Florida to the late Samuel L. Kight and Claudia Pruitt Kight.

Mrs. Martin had made Waycross her home for the majority of her life. She worked as a LPN for Memorial Hospital and Baptist Village Retirement Communities. She was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Donald Barnes,
her second husband, William LaVon Martin,
one daughter, Ellen Sue Barnes, and three brothers, Albert Gatton, William Ballenger and David Remstria.

Mrs. Martin is survived by two daughters, Belinda Gilliard (Tony) of Waycross, Denise Herrin of Waycross, one son, Marlon Kelley (Connie) of Blackshear, seven grandchildren, Andy Hendricks (Melissa) of Waycross, Shane Barnes (Krystal) of Waycross, Lee Cox (Karen) of Waycross, Kyle Bennett of Waycross, Brandon Barnes of Waycross, Chad Dawson (Joni) of Nahunta, Kayla Copeland of Blackshear, sixteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, four sisters, Faye Ashburn, Kathy Lee, Beverly Fowler, Gail Kight, six brothers, James Kight, Roy Kight, Charles Kight, Lonzie Kight, James Clark, Ron Peace and numerous other relatives.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to her friend, Hedi Bagley and her son-in-law, Ritchie Herrin for their constant care and compassion given to Mrs. Martin in her times of need.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday at Sunnyside Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday at the church beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Due to the current COVID-19 climate, masks will be required for all those in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Georgia Hospice Care, 1908 Tebeau Street, Waycross, Georgia 31501.
