George C. "Shorty" Highley, 88, passed away Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009.
He was the beloved husband of the late Anna "Ann" Margaret Middleton Highley, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in Wilmington, Del., he was the son of the late John M. and Jessie Walker Highley.
He was employed by the Denney Tag Co. in West Chester for 45 years, where he was head of the estimating department.
He had a pilot's license and owned his own plane, a PT-19 flight trainer.
He was a charter and very active member of the Willistown United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher.
He was an avid bowler, a longtime member of the Brandywine Grange and enjoyed entertaining, along with his late wife, at their home, "Holiday Hill."
George is survived by a brother-in-law, Gilbert Lyttle and his wife, Dorothy, of Lynchburg, Va; along with several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at the Founds Funeral Home Inc., 229 S. High St., West Chester, 610-696-0134, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Interment will be private in Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery.
