Mrs. Amanda Sports, 91, died suddenly Tuesday (June 16, 2009) from complications of heart disease at the Satilla Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Fitzgerald but had resided most of her life in Waycross. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Sports; her parents, John Tomlinson and Cornelia Forehand Mathis; two sisters and two brothers.

She received her Nursing Diploma from Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta and her Nursing Certificate from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She retired after 35 years as a Registered Nurse with Public Health, where she had served as Nursing Supervisor for Ware and the surrounding counties for most of her career. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was an avid bridge player and gardener.

Survivors include her daughter, Cassie Sports of Gainesville, FL; other treasured family members including in-laws, nieces and nephews, as well as numerous beloved friends.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday (June 18, 2009) at Trinity United Methodist Church Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Music Funeral Home.
