Gerald "Chet" Amerling Sr., 82, died April 6, 2001, of natural causes in Klamath Falls.
Mr. Amerling was born March 12, 1919, in Stanley, Wis., to Herman and Mary (Seidl) Amerling.
He was raised in Wisconsin and graduated from high school there.
He worked in a furniture factory before moving to Klamath Falls in 1940.
He married Marybelle Smoczyk on Aug. 23, 1941, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Mr. Amerling then served in the Navy during World War II from 1941 to 1945 and was honorably discharged as a baker first class.
He next worked for the U.S. Postal Service until retiring in 1977.
He loved family get-togethers, fishing, travel, going to Bandon on the Oregon coast, and camping.
Mr. Amerling was a member of Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1383. He was a volunteer basketball and baseball coach.
Survivors include his wife, Marybelle Amerling of Klamath Falls; daughter, Mary Jo Buckingham of Keno; daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Tom Bowen of Klamath Falls; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Theresa Amerling of Albany; brothers, Donald Amerling of Flint, Mich., and Cyril Amerling of Albany; grandchildren, Ronald Buckingham of Medford, Brenda Clemens of Klamath Falls, Gerry Buckingham of Chiloquin, Kevin and Erica Bowen of Texas, and Jeffery, Amy and Alex Amerling of Albany; great-grandchildren, Josh and Maddie Clemens of Klamath Falls and Gabriel Buckingham of Medford.
He was preceded in death by a son in 1988 and his sister.
