COLLEGE PLACE, - James M "Jim" Davis, 82, died April 30, 2006, at Walla Walla General Hospital.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Mountain View Colonial DeWitt Cremations & Funeral Services, 1551 Dalles Military Road. Pastor John Cress will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens, 300 S. E. Myra Road, College Place.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogers Adventist School Building /Fund through the funeral home.

Mr. Davis was born may 1, 1924, in Ruthven, Iowa, to Stuart and Laura Nelson Davis. He graduated from Oak Park Academy in Iowa and earned a bachelor's from Union College, Lincoln, Neb. He later earned a master's from Whitworth College in Spokane.

On Jun 5, 1947, he and Marjorie Hill married in Longmont, Colo. The family went to many places where he taught, including Shadduck, Okla., Oak Park Academy, Far Eastern Academy in Singapore, Hagerstown, Md., and Union Spring Academy in New York.

After several years of teaching he became involved in school administration and served the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Northern New England and Wisconsin Conferences, and retired from the Upper Columbia Conference in Spokane. After that, they lived a few years in Loma Linda, Calif., where he enjoyed working in real estate management.

They moved to this area in 1993 from Loma Linda. Mrs. Davis died in 1998.

He enjoyed traveling and playing table games. He was a charter member of the Retired Old Men Eating Out Club. He was a people person who enjoyed spending time with friends.

A member of Village Seventh-day Adventist Church, he served on the Finance Committee, and with an organization of retired workers of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Pam and Bob Gammenthaler of Ooltewah, Tenn., and Jacque Holm of Auburn, Wash.; former son-in-law Colvin Holm of Kent, Wash.; sister, Marge Lyon of Portland; two brothers, Charles Davis of Portland, Tenn., and Russell Davis of Ruthven; special friend LaVerne Rudolf of College Place; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Marvin Davis.
