R.L.D.S. Apostle and Church Historian. Son of Spencer Smith and Anna Christina Wight. Heman C. Smith was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on October 7, 1862. On March 14, 1872 he was ordained an elder and on October 8, 1876 ordained a seventy. He was thereafter ordained as president of the seventy on April 14, 1885. He was married to Vida Elizabeth Smith on June 2, 1886 and on March 30, 1888 was ordained as an apostle and a member of the Quorum of the Twelve. He was appointed R.L.D.S. Church Historian in 1897. Smith has authored several works including, History of the Church (four volumes), True Succession in Church Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints(1898), The Factions and Polygamy(1900) and The Truth Defended(1901). He also served as the editor of the Journal of History.
