Inducted July 30, 1944, on his nineteenth birthday. Sidney was sent overseas Jan. 5, 1944 and killed May 20, 1945 in Luzon. He was buried at Santa Barbara cemetery on Luzon. His body was returned to this county for re-interment at Kinkead 8-29-1948.

PFC Sidney E. Bacchus has been reported killed in action May 20 on Northern Luzon. The notification came from the war department, to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James E. Bacchus, Henry Beach, Alexandria, Tuesday.
Pfc. Bacchus, a member of the 35th Infantry, had served overseas 16 months. Pfc. Bacchus has two brothers in the service. Bob has just been graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., as a naval officer and is assigned a ship, Wilfred has been in the navy's V-12 program since he completed high school and has qualified for entry to the naval academy. It is anticipated he will start at the beginning of next term. A sister, Frances, is a nurse and another, Uarda, is a physical education instructor.

Pfc. Sidney Earl Bacchus was born at Alexandria, June 30, 1924, and was reported killed in action May 20, 1945, on Luzon Island in the Philippines. He was 20 years of age at the time of his death. He was a member of the Svea Lutheran church of Alexandria.
He attended the Alexandria high school until called into the service of his country. He was inducted into the U.S. Army June 30, 1943, and received his basic training in the infantry at Camp Roberts, Calif. Sidney embarked for overseas service Jan. 5, 1944, and was stationed at New Zealand and New Caledonia in the South Pacific. He was sent to Luzon Island with Company B, 35th Infantry, 25th Division, in January, 1945, and was reported killed in action there May 20, 1945.
He leaves to mourn his untimely death, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Bacchus of Alexandria, four sisters and two brothers. They are Frances of Wadena, Edine (Mrs. Ned Adair) of Clearfield, Utah; Uarda (Mrs. Chas. Wisdom), of Columbus, Ohio; Arlys of Minneapolis, Robert and Wilfred of Annapolis, Md.
Memorial services were held in the Svea Lutheran church in Alexandria, July 5 and were conducted by Dr. O. O. Gustafson.
