COLLINS, Alexander R., ("Alex"), 82, of Mount Airy, NC, and formerly of Max Meadows, VA, died Sunday, May 18, 1997, in a Mount Airy hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Doss; a daughter, Nina C. Rogers; a son, Billy Eugene Doss, and a granddaughter, Marsha Riggins. He is survived by one daughter & son-in-law, Wanda C. & Raymond Gravley, with whom he made his home for the past eight years, of Mount Airy, NC; four sons & two daughters-in-law, Bruce Collins of Mount Airy, NC, Alexander R. ("Joe") Collins Jr. of Pembroke, VA, Damon E. ("Butch") & Mary Lee Collins of Wytheville, VA, and Douglas C. & Mary Collins of Pulaski, VA; three sisters, Pauline Lloyd of Baltimore, MD, Edith White of Dublin, VA, and Mae Sampson of Wytheville, VA; one brother, D.P. Collins of Max Meadows, VA; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, VA, with the interment in West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Grubb Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, or at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Butch and Mary Lee Collins, at 1445 Peppers Ferry Road, Wytheville, at any time. Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
