Douglas Nephi Pettit our angelic son, brother, uncle and friend, completed his earthly mission Thursday March 9th, 2006 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born August 23rd, 1961 with Downs Syndrome, Doug had a sweet spirit and unconditional love for everyone whose lives he touched. With enthusiasm for life, Doug graduated from the Hartvigsen Special Needs Education School, worked for years at the Work Activity Center, served faithfully in various LDS church callings, including opening the church building each Sunday morning. Douglas earned his Eagle Scout award, and participated annually in the Special Olympics - winning many highly prized medals. Doug also collected LDS temple pictures, helped with the family genealogy project, and worked hours on end doing his "book work". An important part of Doug's life was his special needs Sunday School class and their Sacrament Meeting programs where he and his friends would sing "Choose the Right". The family extends special thanks to Teola Gordon, Claudia Larsen, and Ray Larson, his Sunday School teachers, who have so faithfully served and loved Doug over the years. The family extends it's most sincere gratitude for the compassionate service and care provided for Doug by Life Path Hospice; Dr. Charles Canfield and staff. Douglas was preceded in death by his Mother, Neva Anderson Pettit, who passed away in September, 2001. He is survived by his father Seth Pettit, his sisters Kathleen (Jae) Walker and Julie (Michael ) Chatterton, and his brothers Joseph (Ann), Dean (Peggy), David (Sharae), and Lee (Wendy). Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m., Tuesday March 14, 2006 at the Winder 8th Ward Chapel, 1361 East 4000 South, where friends and family may call from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. A viewing will be held Monday evening March 13th 2006 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home 162 East 400 North, Logan, Utah.
