He was born February 8, 1921 in Salt Lake City the eighth child of Archibald Newel and Genevieve Johnson Pettit. He grew up in South Salt Lake and attended local schools.
Seth married Neva Norene Anderson of Providence, Utah on January 19, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. Soon after their marriage, Seth was drafted into the Army during World War II. He saw action in Africa and Italy and was honorably discharged in 1945. He lived in the Salt Lake area most of his life and was a residential home builder.
Seth and Neva raised a family of seven children. Their children were taught how to work and the importance of thrift and self reliance. Their youngest son, Douglas, was downs syndrome and Seth and Neva volunteered many hours and donated many projects to help support organizations that Doug was a part of.
He participated on the board of directors for the Mount Olympus Training Center, and on the advisory board for the Work Activity Center. He was a member of the LDS Church and served in many positions. Neva passed away in 2002 and Douglas passed away in 2006.
He is survived by six children and their spouses: Kathleen and Jae Walker of Glendora, CA; Joseph and Ann Pettit of Sandy; Dean and Peggy Pettit of South Jordan; David and Sharae Pettit of Draper; Lee and Wendy Pettit of Salt Lake City; Julie and Michael Chatterton of Smithfield. He is also survived by one brother, Newel Pettit of Murray; four sisters, Genevieve Francom of Salt Lake City, Dorthella Walker of Moab, Lyle Lyon of Orem, and Rebecca Nelson of Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Neva, son, Douglas, three brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. in the Winder Eighth Ward Chapel, 1361 East 4000 South. Friends may call on Tuesday evening at the Church from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and also Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
