Lew Canfield was born September 19, 1863 in Dearborn County, Indiana to Myron H. and Mary Livingston Canfield. He married Zona on November 16, 1887 at Little Rock, Arkansas. They were the parents of seven children still living in 1939: W. E. Canfield of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Maude Wells, Myron Canfield, Clyde Canfield, and Mary Wilson of Aberdeen, Washington; Cristena Smith of San Pedro, California; and Bessie Cox of Napa, California.
MILITARY RECORD;
Private
Enlisted May 5, 1898 at Little Rock, Arkansas.
Served in Company "E", 2nd Arkansas Infantry
Disability Discharge on November 25, 1898 at Anniston, Alabama.

He was awarded a pension of $60 per month in April 1926. At the age of 75 years, March 18, 1939, he was admitted to Washington Veterans Home. Mr. Canfield indicated that he had lived at the Leavenworth National Home in Kansas in 1930. Records there indicate that Mr. Canfield was admitted in 1926 at the age of 62.

Lew Canfield died at 10:15 a.m. on July 24, 1950 at the Veterans Home Hospital of Arteriosclerosis
