James "Jim" Arthur Braziel of Monmouth died on Feb. 21 in Salem. He was 73.
He was born to Arthur and Ruth Cunningham Braziel in Royal, Ark.
The family moved from Arkansas in 1945. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1947 and was a Staff Sgt. in telecommunications. He served in the Korean War and North Africa. He was discharged in 1954 and returned to Monmouth.
He married Julia "Judy" Prachar on Dec. 31, 1952.
He worked for Georgia Pacific Mill before retiring in 1971.
He was a member of the Monmouth First Baptist Church.
He was a member of the Independence Elks Lodge and AMVETS.
He was an avid fisherman. He was a huge sports fan and attended many games especially the local sports events to watch grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Braziel and sister, Velda Kessel.
Survivors include his wife, Julia "Judy" Braziel of Monmouth; daughters, Karen Tofte of Corvallis and Carol Anne Agard of Monmouth; son, Kevin Braziel of Monmouth; and seven grandchildren.
Services were Feb. 26 at Independence First Baptist Church and vault interment was at Hilltop Cemetery in Independence.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Central High School Athletic Club or Central Youth Sports in care of Farnstrom Mortuary in Independence which handled the arrangements.
